Keeping you up to date on Resident Camp 2024 at Camp Seph Mack
Welcome to the "Squatch Watch" Newsletter!  We will be using this format to provide updates on the program development, along with some other information about sightings in the area.  This email is designed to be both informative and fun, with tidbits and stories from various organizations outside of Scouting.  We hope that you will enjoy the content.  We are having a blast compiling it!  If you no longer want to receive this, please click on the unsubscribe link below.  You'll be missed.
Bigfoot's March Madness!

With March Madness upon us, Bigfoot's got his own bracket and no matter who wins the message remains the same - we need you to Reserve Your Spot Now! Our scientists at the J. Sephus Mack Institute for Cryptozoological Research are busy crafting an experience you won't want to miss out on! Space is limited and some of our treks are filling fast. Whatever trek your scout chooses is sure to be a SLAM DUNK!

Now that it's March - and registration is now open to units in all districts in Laurel Highlands Council and to out-of-council units - our goal is to register at least 150 youth by May 31, 2023. That is the minimum number we need to reach to run a productive summer camp program and to jumpstart a new, fun-filled era of Scouting at Camp Seph Mack.

Units who sign up their Scouts within the next three months will still get a discount of $20 per Scout that is fully refundable. The overall unit deposit remains $100, but one big change to report on is that individuals can now register on their own and waive the unit deposit. While the unit deposit is still important to make sure we have space for you be together as a unit if you choose to be, we don't want this to limit our scouting families. Right now, families can reserve their spot for the discounted $430 otherwise, the cost of camp will be the standard $450 per Scout if you wait until this summer. Squatch Camp could be sold out by that time, so act fast!

Check the registration link below for a more detailed breakdown, including the Squatch Camp staff application if you are interested.

The risk to signing up is nonexistent, even if your unit plans on sending a single Scout to Squatch Camp. Squatch Camp is being hosted at the camp you love with program being developed by your neighbors within the eastern half of Laurel Highlands Council. Updates about adventure tracks will continue in the coming weeks, so be sure to look out for the next Squatch Watch and Squatch Talk later in March.

Catch Up on the Most Recent Squatch Talk!

For the March episode of "Squatch Talk," we are featuring Joe Rougeux, Expedition Adventure Director. Joe will be highlighting the program for the Expedition Trek and explaining what to expect during your adventure. This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about the structure of the adventure treks. You don't want to miss this!

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 22 at 7 p.m. for the next Squatch Talk!

FAQs

The J. Sephus Mack Center for Sasquatch Research at Camp Seph Mack 2024 is a resident camp program with unique adventure and advancement offerings.  The planning committee for this adventure is world-class and all they need is you and your scouts!  As this is a completely different program, information will be released on a regular basis, but there may be changes as the program evolves.  We ask for your patience, and welcome suggestions to improve communications and program for the event.

Q:          I want to join the team at the J. Sephus Mack Institute, are there openings?
A:           Yes! Right now we are looking for volunteer staff to help us make this exciting adventure possible. If you think you have what it takes, the staff application can be found on the registration page, under the attachments tab. Completed staff applications can be emailed directly to Michele Brenneman at michele.brenneman@scouting.org.

Q:          What will the price of camp be?
A:           The locked in price for 2024 is $450 per scout, but if you act now your scout will receive a $20 discount bring the total down to $430! This covers food and lodging, as well as any incidentals squatch might throw at us. You can reserve this price right now for a $20 FULLY REFUNDABLE deposit.

Q:          What if my troop is still deciding, can individual scouts sign up to reserve their spot?
A:           If your unit is still deciding but you want to make sure your scout can reserve their spot, they can sign up on their own for the $20 fully refundable deposit. While units are still encouraged to sign up together, with the refundable $100 deposit which will reserve space for the whole unit to camp together, we don't want to limit families who want to make sure their scout gets the chance to experience this once in a lifetime program at Seph Mack.

Q:          What if my unit needs some more information?
A:          If your unit needs a little more info to help make their final decision, a dedicated group of our cryptozoological tour guides are ready and willing to come and do a personalized presentation to your unit to make sure you're ready for the hunt come 2024!

Q:          I'm having some trouble with registration, have a question, or want to report a Squatch Sighting - is someone standing by?
A:          Your District executives (Justin and Eric) are both standing by to answer any questions in the mean time. We're both so excited to be able to bring this opportunity back to Seph Mack and are dedicated to keeping you up to date on all the information you and your unit to get ready for the hunt in 2024!
